h&g book club

Last month I borrowed 'The 19th Wife' from my sister, it seemed an odd choice for me; the birth of the Mormon church and the role of polygamy in its practices - RANDOM I hear you say! And I would too, but the way David Ebershoff has written it is remarkable, gripping and so interesting. He weaves three stories together, one is an account of how the church was founded and what they went through as American pioneers to do so (hard core), the second is that of Ann-Eliza daughter of one of the founding members and her struggle against polygamy and finally is the present day story of a young man who is kicked out of the first's (a mormon splinter group who still illegally practice polygamy).

I do highly recommend reading this, I learnt alot about pioneering America, how religion can be twisted to suit those in charge & how that has impacted through the generations and also about people, which is an endless fascinating topic. Its a well written, engrossing and enlighting page turner!

The Perfect Reversible Pinafore Dress

I love these fantastic dresses I've been stocking in the shop for quite awhile now and they are seriously popular. Hand made here in the Rapa from the prettiest fabrics, they are available in sizes 1 to 8 years.

The wonderful thing with a reversible dress, with lovely fabrics on both sides, is that its like having two dresses for the price of one!

Miss Sadie is modelling size 4 dresses $59

How adorable!

Thank you to my favourite model the gorgeous Sadie and to her very talented Mum Jannelle of
Heart Felt for doing the fantastic photography - you girls ROCK! :)

Nuka Face & Body Care

I'm really pleased to let you know h&g is now exclusive Wairarapa stockist of Nuka, the natural approach to skin care.

This amazing NZ made, all natural and very lovely range was created by talented & trained aromotherapist Mel. When Mel was living in Japan studying aromatherapy she was inspired by traditional Japanese beauty techniques and ingredients; combining these with natural New Zealand ingredients, such as Manuka  and Kanuka - Nuka was born. 100% pure essential oils and natural preservative free ingredients; can't you just hear your skin's sigh of relief already :)

The average woman puts 515 chemicals on her skin a day, surely that can't be good for you? I don't know about you but I love the idea of knocking that number right down!

The Moisture Balance Facial Oils, of which there are 14, offer both daytime and evening blends; are specifically designed for an array of skin types and conditions. Oils can be selected to suit your individual needs and you can mix and match between blends if your skin condition varies.

Each of the facial oils use either one or both traditional Japanese base oils - Rice Bran and Camellia.
The oils are full of vitamin E, are highly nourishing and penetrate deeply, so won't leave your skin feeling oily. I've been using the Replenish night oil and loving it, that is really saying something as I have never liked the feeling of oil on my skin!

FAQ

Will the oils make my skin too oily?
No. If you use the oils as advised they will help balance the oil production of your skin

How does it work?
Base oils of Rice Bran and Camellia, contain essential fatty acids that are used by the sebaceous glands, as a normal component of sebum. They penetrate deeply and work with the selected essential oils to stabilise the oil production of your skin, no matter what your skin condition.

Wary of using oils on your skin as a moisturiser?
Then try them as a cleanser!
Simply lightly massage 5-10 drops of oil into your skin, leave on for a few minutes then wipe clean with a warm damp face cloth, leaving your skin feeling soft and nourished.
Using the facial oils as a cleansing treatment is a natural and effective way to cleanse as it mixes with the natural oils your skin produces, penetrating deeply and helping to loosen impurities. When the skin is blemished pores are larger so oil as a cleanser also assists in diminishing pores, it encourages healthy flow of sebum and elasticity returns to the skin.

How do I use the oils?
After cleansing, gently massage for at least 30 seconds, 5 drops of your chosen oil into your face and neck.

How long will a bottle last?
Once opened oils have a shelf life of six months, if kept in cool, dry conditions. Nuka recommends using up to 5 drops of oil for each application, so if used daily a 15ml bottle should last between 1-2 months.
